The Customer

An Italian company leading in the production of alcoholic beverages. The company is committed to the production and promotion of high-quality alcoholic drinks, highly regarded both nationally and internationally, and is part of a diversified and established industrial group.

The Challenge

The client's sales team uses smartphones and tablets during visits to bistros and restaurants to promote products (wines and other beverages) and manage gifts. However, the applications supporting these activities had performance issues that made the user experience inefficient and slow. Sales representatives were faced with long loading times, slow pages, and images that often did not load correctly, compromising the quality of interactions with clients. A critical point was the pricing phase: once the products were selected, the application needed to quickly calculate the final price to facilitate negotiations. Inadequate performance hindered this process, causing delays and discomfort for both the salespeople and their clients.

The solution & the benifts

To improve the sales experience, we embarked on a project aimed at optimizing the performance of the applications used by the sales team.
The first phase focused on the speed of opening the applications, particularly enhancing the pricing phase to improve the prompt calculation of the total price for the selected products.
To support a truly optimal user experience, the catalog loading process was also restructured. The initial synchronous image loading prevented quick access to pages when heavy files were present, causing delays across the entire interface. The new system, through asynchronous loading, now enables pages to be displayed immediately.
Subsequently, the cloud applications hosted on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) were migrated from Neo (an outdated SAP engine) to Cloud Foundry, an Open Source environment still integrated within SAP BTP. Cloud Foundry, in addition to offering a more engaging and modern interface, provides greater flexibility in programming language selection and ensures long-term technological compatibility and support. With SAP Neo set to be deprecated by SAP in 2028, the client faced the necessity of migrating all applications to avoid future incompatibility with emerging standards.

The performance optimization had an immediate and tangible impact: the applications now show a significant improvement in performance. The new asynchronous image loading system has enhanced the fluidity of the user interface, allowing sales representatives to quickly access the information they need without worrying about the weight of visual resources. Finally, the migration to SAP Cloud Foundry represents a long-term investment in scalability and flexibility, ensuring that our client can continue to innovate and adapt their applications to future needs without limitations.
